I remember stumbling across a site that was doing scanslations for it and a couple of other manga, a couple of years before the anime was made, and read it back then. Strangely, I didn't think to actually look for other scanslation sites at the time, so I only read the a small handful of manga. I think the other was Yakitate Japan? But I stopped reading whatever it was after Midori no Hibi finished.
