Though yeah, it's hard to shorten it without confusing people. I don't think they need to exist at all, at least not in that pane. You can see that info in their profile easily enough, and only when you want to. And why would you, anyway? RE: Update to 1.1.6 + INVENTORY SHOP MOD - shaventalz - 07-21-2006 08:06 PM The online indicator I can see being useful. It lets you see if someone'll be able to answer your post fairly quickly, without going through the PM system. RE: Update to 1.1.6 + INVENTORY SHOP MOD - Shadowhunter - 07-21-2006 08:21 PM Yeah, that I'd definately say to keep. Just the Joined/Group lines need to go. I kinda said the same thing back in Post #60: NightWind Wrote:Also, I have this idea about saving space, the "Groups" and "Joined" values can be taken out. I haven't seen much use for them because for the groups, the pink username for mods is more noticable and then the registered date doesn't mean all that much. But then that's only me though. It's probably more like a profile type of detail. The equals sign has forced its way into Nightwind's family. EDIT: And also smacked him/her around for confusing themself with Quote. RE: Update to 1.1.6 + INVENTORY SHOP MOD - Shadowhunter - 07-21-2006 09:41 PM And I'm agreeing with you about that. RE: Update to 1.1.6 + INVENTORY SHOP MOD - *NightWind* - 07-21-2006 10:03 PM ok ^^. I think E-mouse mentioned that they were forum defaults so they can't really be changed. RE: Update to 1.1.6 + INVENTORY SHOP MOD - shaventalz - 07-22-2006 08:04 PM The Spam forum would gain money under the mod's defaults - the group/joined lines should be able to be commented out even more easily. RE: Update to 1.1.6 + INVENTORY SHOP MOD - E-mouse - 07-23-2006 05:13 PM Oi vey. Despite being in the same section of each post, the different parts of the text under each poster's avatar are entirely seperate and may not be easily edited. The Money and Equipment sections were added via the special mod. Webby added the CMC Name part on his own at another time. However, the Posts, Group, Joined Date, and Status portions were in place by default when the forum was created. They may be hard-coded to always be there, and thus impossible to edit or remove. (Though I expect supressing postcount may be possible, for forums that dislike all forms of spamming.) Whether you can stick things in between them is irrelevant, even if they're on the same line - computers care not for line breaks. Despite casual appearances, it may be impossible to change. But at this point only Webby can check. :{ RE: Update to 1.1.6 + INVENTORY SHOP MOD - shaventalz - 07-23-2006 05:27 PM If he has access to the source, and if licensing issues don't prohibit it, the group/joined blocks can be removed. If nothing else, you could probably just search the source for all instances of "Group:", check which one also has "Joined:" right after a smallish group check, and comment the whole block out right down to "Status:". RE: Update to 1.1.6 + INVENTORY SHOP MOD - E-mouse - 07-23-2006 06:05 PM That's a good point. But I don't think Webby has that much access to the forum's workings. I'm not sure if MyBB is coded in something with an easy way to comment out such a small segment, though. Not to mention that editing the core code of the forum may be risky, unless there's a backup or it's tested on a placeholder forum. RE: Update to 1.1.6 + INVENTORY SHOP MOD - shaventalz - 07-23-2006 07:07 PM Hey, if it fails he can just un-comment the display. Backups first, of course. RE: Update to 1.1.6 + INVENTORY SHOP MOD - bluestone - 07-23-2006 07:29 PM I fear change. Can I right-click/save the entire forum... just in case? RE: Update to 1.1.6 + INVENTORY SHOP MOD - E-mouse - 07-23-2006 07:33 PM Might not be a bad idea for important things. After all, we should all remember what caused the change to this forum in the first place. Stupid faulty backups. Also, it's bitterly ironic how much of the conversation in this thread has degraded into yesmenning or echoing already suggested ideas in a way little better than spam posting. RE: Update to 1.1.6 + INVENTORY SHOP MOD - shaventalz - 07-23-2006 07:52 PM * shaventalz agrees with E-Mouse <endpost> Wasn't the problem that the backups were supposed to be happening automatically, and weren't? RE: Update to 1.1.6 + INVENTORY SHOP MOD - bluestone - 07-23-2006 09:26 PM E-mouse Wrote:Also, it's bitterly ironic how much of the conversation in this thread has degraded into yesmenning or echoing already suggested ideas in a way little better than spam posting.Could it be that you're simply more sensitive to spam or spammish posts now that the topic has been forced by the new points system? I don't see much of a change in posting habits, personally. As you pointed out, even the people most interested in heading off a potential spam outbreak find themselves adding thoughts to a thread as it grows naturally. It's the conversational style of the board that keeps it active, and that's a good thing. RE: Update to 1.1.6 + INVENTORY SHOP MOD - Ryan Ashbrook - 07-24-2006 03:23 AM I do not know how you have it set up here. However, if you have a forum that doesn't count posts it won't add to their money either. I haven't read this entire thread, so I don't think I understand clearly. RE: Update to 1.1.6 + INVENTORY SHOP MOD - alphamai1300 - 07-24-2006 04:03 AM Quickly summing, there's potential abuse brewing with this shop webrunner implemented. We have a spam forum, which so far counts posts there as any post outside of it. There are potential abuses, such as superflous posts, said posts getting deleted, and spamming outside the designated spamming forum, and yet those will still count towards the accumulating monetary units. RE: Update to 1.1.6 + INVENTORY SHOP MOD - *NightWind* - 07-24-2006 04:14 AM And just wondering, is there a way we can sell items we bought? RE: Update to 1.1.6 + INVENTORY SHOP MOD - Shadowhunter - 07-24-2006 07:45 AM Since you apparently only keep the item you just bought (didn't I just read that?), that would be no. Same kinda deal with avatar parts, I guess- gotta keep the money low. RE: Update to 1.1.6 + INVENTORY SHOP MOD - masamunemaniac - 07-24-2006 09:23 AM Even if you lost items, it'd be logically feasible (although perhaps take a lot of coding) to have a "sell my xyz item" where xyz is the part slot. It of course wouldn't take into account previous parts, just remove the current one, maybe giving a 50% or 25% or somesuch return on it. Also, with Avatar Parts, the pointsink mechanism is used to keep the entire CMC economy stable. Prior to the avatar system, about half of all rares had a market value of over 800 points; now I'd say guess than 20 booster pack cards do. You parted with ingame currency for nifty looking parts, with which you could be individually distinguished. Forum money is completely meaningless. No money was awarded retroactively, so it's simply a count of activity since xx/yy/zz. It's stupidly easily obtainable, even more easily wasteable, and all it gets you is a little text tag. Which, as this thread would have me believe, most people consider "a neat feature but pretty unsightly". Other than webrunner, you're not going to look at the parts and think "Oh, that's abc". And even then, there's easier ways of recognising someone... All in all, I think we're taking this mod a tad too seriously, ne? |
