New DL Background

Here's the new Dark-Light background, as seen on the Dev Site at the moment on all nonhammer Dark-Light cards. It's very pretty and spacey and stuff, and makes a nice change to the usual Dark-Light background (as shown below).


Thing being, I liked the old Dark-Light background too, and the new one doesn't quite seem imo to suit the likes of Twisted Paladin and Skelebird and such. I guess what I'm saying is that it'd be nice if the Mechanical Chaos backgrounds were used separately to the earlier ones, which should be entirely possible I would think. It would also add a nice level of variety.

Eh who knows, webrunner might even request submissions for the other backgrounds so he can concentrate on... the stuff he'd rather concentrate on.

For what it counts, I strongly agree with this. I love the old D/L background and think it really suited the cards it was used on.

Only thing is, the new one suits the setting of the new cards and does in itself look good good.

Firstly you couldn't access the Dev Site, and now you can't even see images linked from it? Do you have some kind of webfiltering software installed on your computer?

I agree, too- MC D/Ls could use the new background, but I don't think the older ones need it. They looked fine, in my opinion.

I really, really hated the old D/L background. I decided to use MC as a chance to finally change it, since i've never really been happy with it.

It's always struck me as kind of harsh. Though I could see how the new one might not 'fit' with all of the old cards.

I think it's something to do with the uni network blocking ports (I'm living in uni halls at the moment, with every room connected to the uni network...), IT'S EVIL!

You hated the old D/L background? Hell, that was my favorite one!

Port blocking... hmm, not sure if proxies can get around that or not, but then again I know very little about proxies.

Edit: I personally liked the LG background best, then DL. I didn't like the DG one terribly much.

The new one - It does fit with a lot of the old cards - particularly ones like Star Whelp, Nova Crystal..
I think it looks okay for Skelebird and Twisted Paladin.

Edit: As for the old backgrounds, I like the main three, and the ones for DG and LG. I need a better concept for DLG though,

Hmm... I've been looking over them again, and I think it might just be that the red text doesn't suit the new background, in my colourblind opinion. But yeah, it does suit Nova Crystal and Star Egg/Whelp quite well, and Spacedragon too...

I guess I just like the idea of having more variety, it seems, I dunno, a waste to me to discard the old background rather than using it with some of the cards.

The old d/l bg is actually my favourite of all backgrounds. It perfectly mixes the whole light/dark thing with the bg's shrill contrasts.
Er, if that made any sense, that is. I can't talk about art in English. Anyhow, I always thought the l/d was the only one that actually had some thought to it. (sorry if that sounded offensive)

Which is funny because it was the only one that didn't have any thought to it. I just couldnt come up with anything better at the time, then an ugly clashy mess.

The shrill contrast may be appropriate but it doesn't look GOOD.

But I am willing to explore different font colors, maybe a bright light blue.

Considering a mixing of all colors is technically brown, you won't get a "pretty" shade for tri-color by just mixing.

You could just play around with sweeping gradient effects by going from white through grey to black in different arrangements.
Example: sweeping gradient from top left to bottom right starting at white in the top corner and ending in black in the bottom corner.
There's also swirl, wave, line (horizontal, vertiacal, intersecting, etc.), kaleidoscope, etc. Just look at some classic art (the ones without anything in them, just color patterns) for ideas.

well i'll just say this:
crossover coming into play with the starry DL background just looks wrong in my opinion.
nova crystal looks a lil different (cos its different from what i'm used to seeing) but not so bad.
i dunno if twisted paladin quite works really. the rest are fine though.

i personally like the wood-grain loko for tricolour cards (looks expecially good on plains and golden idol IMHO)

If someone can come up with a better omni-usable LD background as well as a font color to use, I'll use it.
