RE: Jokes in cards
Redshirt Ensign is a Star Trek (original series) joke.
Avrillian Fiend is the monster from the April Fools card First Avrillian.
Nedri Megus reminds me of Samus (Metroid), although that's probably just because it's a bounty hunter whose name ends with 'us'. Someone that's actually played the Metroid games could probably tell me that I'm wrong.
Invisible Paint just reminds me of the 'Vanishing Cream' used in loads of Tom & Jerry cartoons (or maybe they just always repeated the same episodes) - just slap it on and it makes you invisible. It's probably not the inspiration, and it's probably a bit more high-tech than that. Light hits the paint, travels around its surface and leaves the paint at the other side, travelling along the same trajectory/path, giving the appearance of the space which the painted object occupies as not existing, allowing near-perfect stealth? Or it could just be the same vanishing cream in a larger tin >_>

RE: Jokes in cards
Yup, Redshirt cracks me up. Fiend's a nice reference, too.
And no, Megus does NOT remind me of Samus. >_>

RE: Jokes in cards
Actually Samus Aran was a partial inspiration for Talon Megus. Like samus, it's not clear from looking what gender he/she is.
Unlike samus no matter how fast you play you're not going to find out if he/she is a girl or not.

Oh duh. Exhaust Port Torpedo. Now the picture makes sense at least, it just looked like a blob with a couple of lines going across it.

RE: Jokes in cards
data hack has some homageness to it too, but i dunno if anyone would notice it unless i point it out. its not too clear, but it has a relation to redalert1 (think of the nuclear reactor mission)
also "existence is futile" (deregister)- it didn't make it to the card, but, eh, i'm sure you all figured out the reference that that is from.

RE: Jokes in cards
Eh, now it's no fun pointing out our own references, especially on cards that didn't make the grade
That said, the pose on my non-accepted sword dancer was copied straight from a screenshot of an anime I watched... bet you can't guess what?

RE: Jokes in cards
No need to apologise. The need for CMC to have good art outweighs the need for me to inflate my ego with my own art.
Besides, when I want to inflate my ego it's not hard for me to do so, having 100% of all my avatar part submissions being accepted n'all
Hmm... I should probably make & release a bunch more parts to try and sink a few points prior to MC coming out...
