RE: ADV! RPG Demo is finished!
Well, to be fair, spriting is a very slow job, especially if you're trying to do a good job of it Icon_razz You have to virtually manipulate the images a pixel at a time - it's quite painstaking.

Also, damn, looks like I'm included in the only-one-sprite-job gang. Over a year ago I made that sheet.

Also: Come on, edit it into the opening post. Seriously, most people aren't going to read through the whole thread, especially as it mostly appears to be criticisms/comments/praise anyway.

RE: ADV! RPG Demo is finished!
I've got a copy of the (one) font you need now right here, and it's also linked from the other boards. It's 'only' around 5 MB.

Rapidshare: Yeah, I know. Got a better place for it?

RE: ADV! RPG Demo is finished!
Hmm... a couple of the imageboards I used to visit on occasion had stickies with some good filehosts for different size bands. I can't recall any offhand, but I guess I'll look into it for the next major update. If you've already uploaded/uploading, then it's not worth the effort to switch over for this version.

Also, 5mb? o_0
RM2K3 readme.txt file Wrote:
+------------------------------------------+
| If the In-Game Fonts Don't Look Right... |
+------------------------------------------+

If the in-game fonts appear squishy and the letters run together, try the following steps,
in order, to solve the problem:

1. Install the "msgothi0.ttc" and "msmincho.ttc" fonts by copying them from the fonts
directory included in the installation to the \windows\fonts directory and double-clicking
on them. See if the fonts look correct now.

2. If the step above didn't work, install the "RM2000.fon" and "RMG2000.fon" font files
into windows\fonts as described above (note that installing these files isn't necessary
if you already have RPG Maker 2000 installed), then copy the "RPG_RT.exe.dat" file included in
the fonts directory over the one in the main application directory (the same directory as the
RPG2003.exe file). Create a new project and see if the fonts look correct in that new project.

TIP: I have been told that downloading Japanese language support for Internet Explorer
makes the fonts used for method #1 work reliably. Try it and see.

NOTE: If you have to use method #2 above to fix the fonts, projects you created before
performing the fix will not be fixed. You must copy the RPG_RT.exe file from the new
project over the one in your existing project(s).

RE: ADV! RPG Demo is finished!
The fonts aren't included with the RTP, though - that's only with the full install of RPG Maker 2003. I think.

If you don't have them and need them, check the first post again.

RE: ADV! RPG Demo is finished!
Battle Sprites do take a LONG TIME TO MAKE. I should know, I MADE THEM. I only got through Karn, Ardam, Karashi, Drecker and Gilward. I'm working on Tesla and Lumi at the moment, Just thinking about Spybot and Chookie gives me a headache since they are so vastly different then the sprite originals in RPG maker.

Actually, Archchrono took care of Spybot already.

RE: ADV! RPG Demo is finished!
SECOND PROBLEM.

lack of communication.

I thought this project was actually dead for some time since no one mentioned it and the boards at Shaven's place has no new posts since October and November and August. I AM LOOKING AT THE FORUM RIGHT NOW AND I SEE NOT THIS UPDATE ABOUT SPYBOT. I know Dragonsage and I think it was Midboss was working on sprites too and we all got to together on Aim to ask what each was working on and it was a total mess.

RE: ADV! RPG Demo is finished!
If Midboss was working on spriting, no-one told me. I didn't mention it in Graphics, but I did point it out in Current Work, 7 posts up from the bottom.

And yes, communication pretty much ground to a halt; everyone had classes interfering at the same time, and just never got back together.

Yeah, and most of what we DID say was between Shaven, Mus, and myself... everyone else seemed to keep dissapearing, whomever's fault is was. Should've let you know, though.

RE: ADV! RPG Demo is finished!
Seems that people are having trouble figuring out how to install the game. Run Setup.exe from the zip, and this will pop up:

Double-click the install path to change it, then click the left button. Hope that solves the problems.

Those sprites literally hurt my eyes, somehow. I suggest making new, less painful ones.

RE: ADV! RPG Demo is finished!
Gospel is absolutely correct. Firstly, about battle sprites taking a looooong time to make (I was actually randomly halfway through some Spybot sprites, and this is the first I'd heard that they were already done). They take far longer than walk sprites.

Secondly, about the communication. Yes, some of us disappear for other things occasionally. The lack of forum communication however makes it much more difficult for us to catch up however. Even if you posted a brief summary of what was covered in the AIM conversations we'd have a much better idea of what was going on.

And presumably Gamechamp isn't talking about Gospel's sprites.

RE: ADV! RPG Demo is finished!
Which sprites are you talking about, gamechamp? The RTP? The Karn out-of-battle sprite? The larger-style Drecker and Karashi sprites?

Wait, Shuryou Gospel, you made the battle sprites by scratch?

RE: ADV! RPG Demo is finished!
Nicely done demo. I'd expect some faster leveling, though, and some balance issues. Also, put in mana potions in shops, and give drecker some abilities that use MP. Oh, and his steal is...almost not worth it. Karashi+drecker rock, if you use knives. Chookie+ardam do, too.(Xplode+life=one-turn win every battle).

Other than that...

Which differs from every other game, how?

The only time I ever use steal is if I checked a walkthrough to look up which half-dozen creatures in the world have something worth taking.

RE: ADV! RPG Demo is finished!
I'm an obsessive compulsive collector when RPG playing, so I usually make sure to steal from every boss possible in case of unique items, and I often steal or mug when it means obtaining items that can't otherwise be easily obtained. But that's just me.

RE: ADV! RPG Demo is finished!
For the most part, though, thievery ain't worth it.

Of course, the bosses in FFV are loaded. Gaia hammer several plot points before, Gaia Gear on a boss you shouldn't be able to defeat, Genji Helm on Gilgamesh, who only stays around for two turns...
