Karn vs Shadehawk?
I was just reading through the archives, when I saw this:

Could it be the guy with the purple hair and trenchcoat is Shadehawk, cameo-style? If it is, then I'm going hyper. Go Shadehawk!

Um, if this has been mentioned before in some previous thread, then I'll just delete this thread

....no Tub, it isn't Hector or Khrima.

And I didn't remember that comic... I dare say that that is a cameo.

RE: Karn vs Shadehawk?
If it is, then it's a really shiny trenchcoat he's got on. The sleeves are a bit on the long side too.

RE: Karn vs Shadehawk?
Maybe it's concept art? The date of the ADV comic is 17th February 2003, whilst AFH actually started on 1st June 2003.

Edit: And so it seems Shadehawk's coat is slightly shiner than usual in his debut.

RE: Karn vs Shadehawk?
Actually, just say yes, it is Shadehawk.

Then the crossover battle can legitimately take place in the ADV RPG.

RE: Karn vs Shadehawk?
Hehe, that would be interesting. Wonder if Shaven will go for that...he should, though, with this comic being so close to actual Shadey. Granted, Shadey would have the advantage on that narrow beam- just keep shooting straight at Karn. >_>

Using RPG physics however, it means nothing - there's no chance of falling off, Shadehawk can only fire when it's his turn, guns are weaker than swords... Icon_razz

But it's a cutscene.

RE: Karn vs Shadehawk?
C- cutscene?

But cutscenes are boring. Why one This Planet would you waste such a golden opportunity on a cutscene?

Especially when there's no animation crew. It'd just be overworld sprites jumping around and getting hit with RTP battle animations Icon_razz

RE: Karn vs Shadehawk?
That does look an awful lot like the second panel of this AFH comic, just without the rain, city backdrop and slippery roof, so I'd say, yes, that most likely is Shadey, or at least a concept art of Shadey.
What I really want to know is, why isn't the ocean spilling out of those holes into the surrounding panels?!

Wonder if Shaven's noticed this thread yet...:)

And Masa? If cutscenes are so boring to you, then you can dang well make one! You're the guy with the mad artistical skillz, after all.

RE: Karn vs Shadehawk?
My mad artistic skills mean nothing if what I make exceeds the limitations of the system.

RM2K3's lack of alpha channel support is crippling to any non-sprite based artwork.

And animations... well, there's the frame timing being tied to the non-static duration of a game cycle, the limitation of using only a certain number of raster images (again without an alpha channel), inability to move them effectively, and general jerkiness of the whole animation once you do get one going pretty much makes in-game animation a call for suicide.

If I ever get around to trying out Flash (and am not rubbish at it) I could try and make some kind of animation(s) in it, and save them as avis or mpegs or whatever RM2K3 supports.

Basically, this post comes down to me saying that RPG Maker is not good enough for my madskillz.

Or at least doesn't support formats you're used to.

Though yeah, relying solely on .pngs and single-frame-advancement animations is sort of WTFOW

And I take it there's no way to make them supported..

Also, that sounds so stuck-up, even if it's true. <_<

'cause, y'know, RPGMaker is great stuff.

RE: Karn vs Shadehawk?
I wouldn't call RPG Maker great stuff, but it's certainly easier than trying to make everything by hand. Also, if you'll notice, none of that ever actually happened. That was Karn thinking up things they hadn't done yet, to get to the last artifact that was just up at auction. Therefore, Shady never actually made it into the game.

RE: Karn vs Shadehawk?
It's entirely possible that Shadehawk was someone that they had encountered before and Karn expected to run into again.

RE: Karn vs Shadehawk?
There could be several different ways to obtain the artifact, depending on the player's actions, and you just have to choose one.
