The ability to hide cards that aren't available for sale Icon_razz

That can be done. Would it be right to assume that through the csc, available=0 is the deciding factor?

I'll see if it can be done. Though first, let me know your request in more detail and also provide the following:

1)What you are currently seeing
2)What you want to only see
3)What you don't want to see

Posting the names of a few cards in each category above should do.

RE: NightWind's Card Searcher
available=0 actually just means unavailable through booster packs, so for things like vouchers, event cards, participation awards etc, they'll have available=0 even though they can be obtained by other means.

What I actually meant was an option to hide cards if there are zero sellers for the card in question Icon_razz

RE: NightWind's Card Searcher
Nolder: about your request of tri-colour cards
Nolder, I'm now looking at changing the form design to cater for masa and your requests. I need to know in detail what your request involves - please refer to my post above.

I'm running out of space on the search form. In hindsight, it would be wasted effort if I had to redesign the form for masa's request and then realize I'll have to redesign it all again for your request. I could cater the design for masa's request fine, but I need to know more about yours. This is especially the case where both requests were made at about the same time.

Nolder's request about word matching

actually i just happened to think of something but i'm not sure if it's possible

you know how if you misspell something into google it makes a suggestion?
would it be possible to implement something like that?

like say i type "Keler Tower"
it would say "Did you mean Kelar Tower?!?!" or something >_>
but yeah...just an idea

This would be incredibly time consuming to code. It would require a complete change to the current process flow. For now, I can't say if I have the time to implement this, as once I start on it, I would not be able to focus on other requests. I do find your suggestion useful, but it's hard in a way.

Hmmm... It might work, but it needs to be done tastefully, less like someone stupid making a guess while you're saying something specific.

Tastefully... hmm... in my current and future state, I can only manage a somewhat crummy job of matching the number of letters and all. Even if implemented, it would be nothing compared to Google - simply because if it was, I would be able to afford all the web servers I want. And buy cosplay items from the Internet.

So all in all, time consumingly possible, but resulting effort would be able to cater for small spellling mistakes but not of Google quality.

I'm not making any guarantees on if this check-and-suggest request will be implemented, but I wil keep it in mind. Because this requires so much effort, I will be prioritising this against any other requests which are around. Though even if there are no requests, this will take time to implement because it could impact how all the other parts work.

So yeah, no guarantees, but will keep in mind.

Oh, well since you're taking requests: could the "provide store prices" button automatically be checked? I mean, it's a store searcher. It's pretty rare (i.e. has never actually happened) that I've used it to not find store prices.

While I don't disagree with checking the box by default (provide more information instead of less), this was originally intended as a card database so you could do things like "display all tricolor monsters with attack and life both above 40 but with total mana cost below 10".

Erm... actually it was a designed as card searcher first, but the store searcher functionality was added to it only when I knew the myjavaserver site was going to go down. Hmm... now I has a branding issue. Icon_razz

Anyway Andriex, your idea's easy to implement, so at least that part is okay. Though I will need to see what everyone else wants as well, as this has a large impact on usuability.

RE: NightWind's Card Searcher
I disagree with andriex, I use it primarily to gather information on cards (like when doing research for balance posts). I'm surprised that you all don't use this for your balance research. What else do you use, then?
When the box is checked, there's a significant increase in loading time. This alone is enough reason to have it unchecked by default.

The name comparision would really swallow up time. Here's a few hints:
- Parse each string into arrays of single characters. This is also how you should store the names of the available cards so you can compare them.
- Run a loop that replaces the characters one by one, one at a time, with wild cards (single character wild cards, usually depicted by '?')
- Run another loop that checks for accidental extra letters or missing letters (you can include the accidental extra letters by allowing the '?' from the last item to also be zero length).

All in all, in Java, it's hell to do all this and it would massively slow down any search you run since it would largely increase server use. I'd hate it if my searches would take longer because other people can't take their time to type properly.

Actually, if implemented properly, it shouldn't really have any effect on searches that are entered correctly, since it shouldn't bother searching for typo-matches if any real matches were found.

That said, no, I don't think it's worth implementing.

RE: NightWind's Card Searcher
Hey, true, the spell checking and auto-display of the store searcher results will turn out to be more of a hindrance. Nice to haves, but unfeasible our situation.

Oh and the test site for hide-cards-if-not-sold is here. I still need to change the form design a bit - especially if I'm going to take into consideration the amount of space Nolder's tri-colour request needs.

masa, can you please let me know if it is working as expected? I'll move it over to the main site if it's a yes.

Edit: no need to wait for Nolder's request, it was a mixup on my part. See post #257 for more details.

RE: NightWind's Card Searcher
I've had times when I wanted to search for cards of exactly one unspecified color, or exactly two unspecified colors.
Right now that's three searches, I'd like it if the "Card Colour" had options like these.

So for card colour, you want invert and exact options?

The "Hide card if no sellers found" function on the test site works perfectly! Icon_biggrin
