RE: NightWind's Card Searcher
It's probably a lot less useful, but for theme tournaments, it could be useful to want to look in only one or two expansions. Or for example, the Winter tournament is, for the most part, all cards but Hammer cards (with a few other exceptions), so being able to search for -not- hammer would be moderately useful

The other thing's going to be used more often, though, so if the second is way too much work, I wouldn't bother (unless you're feeling especially bored some day =P) and people can continue to look at each expansion one at a time.

RE: NightWind's Card Searcher
Because nofeehost and jabry have now taken down their DNS server, this means that store searches can't be made on the cardsearcher because it tries to look at the wiki page and personal store pages.

As such, I have now taken out the store searching functionality and placed it here by itself in it's own little home.

http://cmcprojects.webng.com/storesearcher/

And I don't know how to get rid of the ads - they were forcefully put in there after my code.

And apparently WebNG is quite deadlock prone. If you harass it a bit, it'll just crash and bring you back to the index whilst it mopes for about 5 mins.

RE: NightWind's Card Searcher
I'm now going to start uploading the RU expansion into the production cardsearcher database.

Does anyone still need RUTest? If not, I'll take it down whilst I'm at it.

RE: NightWind's Card Searcher
The main cardsearcher on both nofeehost and jabry are now updated with the RU expansion set and I have taken down all instances of RUTest.

Some cards such as 1188 - Command Condor seem to have cardart missing on both the cardsearcher and the wiki site - is this normal?

So from now on the cardsearcher will just be a card searcher and the store searcher will just search stores.
WebNG is extremely slow - so slow in fact that the cardsearcher can't even do basic non-store searches without timing out (I can't change the timeout setting). In the end it can only run the store searcher as a standalone site. If anyone has a problem with this, let me know.

I don't plan on merging the store searcher and cardsearcher back together unless I happen to find magic site that is fast enough to host them combined. Other sites seem to have a trap where they charge you even though you are signing up for a free site. I hope I don't get an unexpected expense on my internet bill.

That's normal. There are some cards still needing art, mainly as if we did wait for ALL the art to be finished, the set would take even longer than it already has.

On a side note, good to see the store searcher back up and running in some capacity.

Not a big deal or anything, but I figure it'll be a useful filter when building tournament decks.

Bugle, I have now implemented the fall legal search option here:

It's worked like that for me for ages.

I thought it was a "Feature" so never said anything.

Also, I thought of a possible feature... in addition to "light, dark, grey, light-dark, light-grey, dark-grey, light-dark-grey" for colour filters, could there be "mono-colour" and "multi-colour?"

RE: NightWind's Card Searcher
That's odd... I use Firefox and the only time I see history.back in action is when I click the "Search Again" button.

Masa and Bugle, which page are you referring to? The form page or results page? Was it only for particular searches? And when you say "the entire page", do you literally mean if you click anywhere it takes you back?

I only intended for the Search Again button to take you back to the search form, but if you used a direct link/pre-typed results url, then it would take you back to say, Google.com if you were on that page previously.

I can remove the Search Again button and all references to history.back, but first I would like to see when and how it occurs.

RE: NightWind's Card Searcher
Clicking anywhere on the results page took me back to the search page. It's only been doing this recently, but I suppose I'll check if it's doing this for all searches or whether it's just a random one-off thing.

This was using Firefox 4.something.

RE: NightWind's Card Searcher
I'm using Firefox 3, so maybe that's why.

If needed, I can just remove the Search Again button (thus also the history.back) code. People can always just use the back button on their browser right? Icon_wink

I should be able to add a mono and multi colour filters with no problem. Though I'm curious - what situations will require someone to do a multi colour search as there's so many variants of multi-colour?

All these mentions of colours makes me think of Rainbow Dash. Because I recently watched this. So it looks like after all that time, I finally got hit as well by this whole phase thing...

RE: NightWind's Card Searcher
Usually I go "awww, no mono-multi colour option" when I'm looking up stuff for balance threads. I have a point I want to make about, say, 8 costers, search for total mana cost 8-8, and then pop up the cards I want along with the multicoloured ones I don't (like Zera who costs 4/4).

Similarly, I guess when I'm looking for stuff for my deck in a specific cost bracket, popping up the multi-coloured stuff in a different cost bracket'll happen.

I can't -think- of a reason I'd do a specific multi-colour search right now, but I'm sure there are reasons. Of course, part the reason I might not be able to think about it is I'm half asleep.

Ah I see what you mean. The colour filters shouldn't be too much work. I might also remove the Search Again button whilst I'm at it.

If anyone notices any other strange or unexpected "features", let me know and I'll see if I can fix it. Also, if you see downtime that lasts for over 30 mins, post it here as well so I can determine how (un)reliable these webhosts are.

(Stealth drive-by posting since I don't actually play CMC but have occasionally played with the card searcher when bored anyway, and I happened to notice this thread while, umm, actually I don't remember what I was doing!)

Something that might be useful is the ability to search for relative sac, i.e., an entity's sac value minus its mana cost. This seems more meaningful than its absolute sac value.

Since we already have that as a sort option (total mana cost - total sac), this should be a small change.

In fact I should be able to bundle it together with the changes to remove the Search Again button and the addition of the colour filters.

RE: NightWind's Card Searcher
Though waitasec... are we talking about

1) Total mana cost - total sac or
2) Total sac - total mana cost
3) Something else?
4) Uh... both 1 and 2?
5) Mathematical "relative" as in 2 - 8 = 8 - 2?
6) Too many options. I think I killed the form.

Guys, mind giving an example or two of how you think it should work?

RE: NightWind's Card Searcher
'Total sac - Total cost' probably makes more sense than the other way around (as a positive number will be a sac profit, and a negative number a sac loss).

If it's a field that we can just enter into, we definitely don't need both options there though. And not absolute value: -2 is very different to +2.

Searching for monsters with +3 relative sac value would return cards like Winged Demon ([Image: dmana.gif]8 - [Image: dmana.gif]5 = 3) and Robot Flunky ([Image: dmana.gif]4[Image: gmana.gif]2 - [Image: dmana.gif]3 = 3).
Searching for monsters with -8 relative sac value would return cards like VCH Tesla (zero - [Image: lmana.gif]8 = -8).
Searching for monsters with 0 relative sac value would return cards like Clash NPC ([Image: gmana.gif]1 - [Image: gmana.gif]1 = 0).

Being able to search a range might be useful, so you could search from 1 to 3, or -1 to 0, or -99 to -5, or whatever.

I personally call it Sac Profit/Loss, but I guess Relative Sac Value might make more sense, as a label for the field.
