RE: Phase 8: Manipulators; Chapter 1: Pawns and Knights
I knew it and said so. I just didn't feel like taking the effort of PROVING it.
Why should I? I'm always right anyway.

Well, except for that time you thought you were mistaken. Hey, at least you were proven wrong on that, right?

Wow. Destroying the city on a whim is impressive enough, but destroying the city with a whim? Well, I guess that's psychokinesis for you.

Wizard looking rather deadly and as his true self there. Oh and Hector looking quite adorable - a softer side perhaps?

"That woman?"
Is he still talking about Tera here? Is that just confusing phrasing or is it another thing we don't know about yet? Would all of this be clearer if I was more awake?

RE: Phase 8: Manipulators; Chapter 1: Pawns and Knights
I actually thought "that woman" meant Waterfall, for some reason, as she would have been the next test subject. Could be Tera, though. Ambiguous phrasing.
It'll probably be someone I didn't even think of, of course.

Waterfall was actually my other idea but I guess I forgot to put that in my post.

Am I the only one thinking about someone more closely related to Dechs/Jacob?

RE: Phase 8: Manipulators; Chapter 1: Pawns and Knights
So not Waterfall, then.  I don't think the conversation would make sense if it were Tera, either.
Also?  It just occured to me that I've never seen black smoke from a cigarette.  The black means it's healthy not deadly, I guess.

I used to think "checkmate", but Google says not.

RE: Phase 8: Manipulators; Chapter 1: Pawns and Knights
Check is one step before Checkmate. Basically, it means the person saying "Check" is one move from getting Checkmate.
You probably already knew that, but I just wanted to post something that appeared meaningful.

RE: Phase 8: Manipulators; Chapter 1: Pawns and Knights
No, you call check is whenever a piece of yours is threatening the opponent's king. As in, if they do nothing, the piece can capture it next turn. The opponent must move so that none of the opponent's pieces threaten the king.
Checkmate is when the king is in check and there is no legal move that will place the king out of check. The game then ends with the checkmated person losing. Stalemate on the other hand is when there is no legal move that will place the king out of check but the king is not currently in check. The game is then a draw.
To keep this post on topic: Thus metaphorically you can say that wizard is making a move that is threatening to "win" the game. One that his opponent did not even see.

That's what I said, only with far fewer words.

RE: Phase 8: Manipulators; Chapter 1: Pawns and Knights
No it's not. Having your opponent in check doesn't necessarily mean you can get checkmate next turn, and you can put an opponent in checkmate without necessarily having had him in check at any prior turn (though on the SAME turn, any checkmate is also technically a check).
If you want simple, try this: "Check" means you've placed your opponent in danger which requires immediate attention. "Checkmate" means you've placed your opponent in certain doom.
