Card Competition To My Delight

Ok! I want to see your best thoughts put into this.


I woke up today feeling generous and creative. So in that spirit I would like to give away free prizes to the one with the most creative and generous card creation.

Prizes will be given to the best in 3 categories. Which are Dark, Grey, and Light. (no multi color)
Each category will have a set of rules and the rules must be followed.

I would like it if I could get 1 judge to help me out. He or she cannot win any prizes but will be rewarded. For his/her help. I only need 1 and I will pick the person by past experience with that player.

I will not specify the prizes at this time. I can assure you that it will be a very well deserved prize. Each Category has it's own prize and I will be giving away 2 prizes for each category. One prize of course to the one I feel most deserving in it's creativity and generosity. The second I will not say as to what I am judging in hopes to make this as different as it could be in the card ideas.

Please follow the rules carefully. Art work is not needed but it would be nice to see some.

RULES
All Cards
1. All cards are to be a monster with an ability that matches each categories rules.
2. The ability must be that of Generosity to the other player.(must include other player and it doesn't count against you to help your self out either.)
3. You must make a 1 card for each category and they must be on the same post. (Thats the trickiest part, you will have plenty of time to put it on one post.)
4. You will be judged on each category and can win a prize for each.
5. Balance the cards the best you can.
6. You can only submit 1 time. The first card ideas that I see up will count as your submission. Any deletions or changes to your post will disqualify you from the event.
7. Post may not be submitted until Sept. 7 (This is to allow feedback and changes to wording in the thread but no changes to the rules.)


Dark Card Rules
1.Dark cards must have a generous ability on top of losing your own life points.
2.This card won't dizzy when using it's ability.


Grey Card Rules
1. Grey Cards must have a generous ability and are speed summoned.
2. This cards ability must cost Grey mana when using it's ability

Light Card Rules
1. Light Cards must have a generous ability and must discard a card and draw a card when into play.
2. This cards ability will cost you to discard a card.

Deadline OCT.1 7pm.

Prizes and winners will be announced within 1-5 days OCT.1

If you want someone to be anal about wording, penalising submissions that aren't currently codeable or that don't use the correct format, then I'll help out.

Or if you want your competition to be fun, you'd best pick someone else

This sounds a lot like the card competition with all the casual fun sucked out of it. Not that I hate the idea of a competition with prizes, I just dislike the idea of a competition with broad restrictions based on color, AND a deadline- Perhaps the most useless thing on the Fantasy Card forum, which gets a... How shall I put this... Moderate amount of activity, but definitely not enough to merit a deadline of any sort.

I need some sort of deadline if I didn't then what would be the point of making it a prize given competition. Putting the rules in helps to limit some of the super wacky cards. Stuff like: 4grey mana cast frying pan and hit your daddy in the face. Just goofy stuff. It's fun and there are plenty of these fun threads in this forum already. The thread here maybe moderate and have restrictions but the prizes won't be. As far as color goes thats really not a restriction it is simply a category, the ability behind each category are the restrictions. I have no arguments with the idea of prizes for cool fantasy cards, that would be awesome (but perhaps they would be small, in the spirit of fantasy card making), but to put a time limit of only a month on the fantasy card forum shows a general lack of understanding of the way the fantasy CMC card community really runs. All of it is casual, all of it is for fun to see who can make really interesting cards. I think if you were to do a competition like this you need to loosen up the rules and restrictions a bit.

, it again shows a major misunderstanding between you and the rest of this fantasy card community. Are there cards that exist like that? Yes. Are they really very common outside of one or two threads made just for fun? Actually, not really. More often than not cards could pass for legit CMC material if they're made quite well with everything in mind when they're made.

Time also does not make competitions degrade into a bunch of plebians making cards like "Create unique STUPID." That isn't how it works. It's almost insulting that you'd be accusing basically the whole forum of that. It's all in good fun, and you're making assumptions in gigantic leaps and bounds. Rules are fine, so long as you make them reasonable for the people who are likely to be in this tournament, and so far you aren't being very understanding of your target participants.

You also need to define your terms. I'm not saying I won't consider, I'm just saying I won't consider if the rules aren't changed to be more open and understanding of the forum you're making it in.

I honestly don't really get what the big problem with a deadline is. He's letting people know how long they have before he closes this and hands out prizes. I much prefer that to being blindsided by a randomly occurring deadline of who knows what.

Hmm. I guess I see where you're coming from when you put it like that. But I'm still not a gigantic fan of the reasoning behind it.

Enatai , I understand that rules can be a bit boring but in this case, I think that we could make an exception. I'm not trying to blast anyone for coming up with crazy cards in the forum. I'm just trying to limit that in this thread. Also if there were a better spot to put this thread I would have taken that into consideration. I'm sure that the thread would have been moved here if placed else where. The cards being made here are Fantasy cards.


I am not trying to limit your creativeness. If there were a brick wall in your way you would figure out how to get past it. The same could be said for rules that I have put on here. I should have left the rules open for discussion as well but I did already post that the rules will not be changed. Next time I won't be so forward in that area.


When you post your cards up please consider ideas for the next competition that I hold. My aim is not to make the cards dull. I have already thought of many cards whether good or bad.
I just hope that people partake in this thread and I will consider another option the next time I have one of these. I am open to any ideas you may have and I will be running another soon after this one is over.

Thanks for your feedback Enatai. I have not taken any offense to what you have said. This is a fantasy card forum and I do hear what you are saying. Just give this a shot (you just might have fun :0) and and I'll work on being more relaxed in future Card competitions.

I tried my best on these. I'm guessing they meet up to all the requirements. I didn't give the dark one an activated ability, so technically it doesn't dizzy when using its ability. I wanted to make sure all text would fit on actual cards, too. I think it all does.

Normally I don't really do fantasy cards, but I found a few that I really liked. It was hard to work with the given criteria. I think Tamdrik's is the one best suited for flavor, and Nightwind's the least. Originally I wanted to do something with stat swapping (personality changes), but this is more fun and actually beneficial to the opponent (as required).

When did I ever say they were boring? I said that they were rather restrictive, not rather dull. But I suppose people can sign up if they want to, and I'm all for a tourney. I'll see what I can do, maybe.

And for the "Fear", It doubles a monsters attack, but if it doesn't attack that turn, it is destroyed (Symbolizing attack/flee upon seeing a HUGE enemy in war)

How many religions must you have, to think they're all real gods?

...one. Hinduism, for example, has deities in the hundreds. And, at the same time, only one. It's... it's complicated.

@masa: I meant they're all from real religions. Far be it for me to tell someone which Gods are real and which aren't.

Pssh...You could've made them Din, Nayru, and Farore. I'm pretty sure someone has made a religion based on Hylian lore.
