First off, yay! This sounds cool. Second off, if you want something like a scan system, and in-battle switching... USE RMXP. Seriously, it\'s the only really good way of doing things like that.
Third off, I think I have the official \"Khrima theme\" (yes, there was an official one; I DLed it from the old ADV! website).
EDIT: Darns. Looks like it\'s on my other computer; I\'ll be able to post it Wednesday, then.

The Orange, Terminal Illness, Experience Past, and Melody of Finite can still be found here, even though you can\'t actually find that from the comic page.
The Orange, that\'s the one. Thanks, saves me the trouble of finding it. ^_^

shaventalz Wrote:On a side note, does anyone know how to make a \'Scan\' system? I don\'t seem to recall there being any way to, for instance, tell which enemy was targeted by scan.
Not in RM2K\'s engine. Any effect that has to be written with scripts (stealing is a well-known example) can\'t target a specific monster.

Thanks for the music links. The reason I didn\'t use XP was because it appeared to not have the side-view battle system that ADV! would seem to need.
EDIT: Mason: I can think of one way to do stealing, but it would be such a huge pain that it wouldn\'t be worth it. You could have Steal be a switch action, and inside each battle have a page devoted to stealing. Then give them a custom screen asking for who to steal from. That would be such a pain to set up, though, it wouldn\'t even be funny. Any volunteers?

RE: ADV! RPG
You know, that would actually work! Thing is, like you said, it would be a big pain to set up, since you\'d have to hard-code the entire thing for every last M.Party.
Yes, in RM2k3, you could do a steal system like that. It would be a pain. It\'s been done before. It has to be uniquely coded for every monster group, for each monster, and for each party member that can steal/scan.
Or, you could use RMXP, and DL the side-view-battle script, and the probably-already-made stealing and scan scripts.
Aren\'t built in scripting languages kewl? ^_^
It does pose a graphics problem, though: RMXP uses 640x480 resolution, while previous versions are 320x240.

Yeah, I noticed the graphical differences. What I didn\'t know was that there was a side-view battle option available. That would have been nice to know earlier, but I\'m far enough in that I\'m not about to switch. Plus, there\'s plenty of chipsets and such for 2k3.
EDIT: I\'ve run some tests with RMXP. Running on a test machine (700 mHz, 256 MB RAM), the world map alone (no events, no towns, no plots, no nothing) was incredibly jerky. Just to walk from one end of the map to the other took twice as long on a map the same size. Plus, I didn\'t see an obvious way to make the map wrap. And the documentation is in Japanese. And the menu windows are of a fixed size that\'s bigger than my screen. And I\'m betting the file size is going to be much bigger than with 2k3. Long story short, it\'s got some good points, but I\'m not about to switch.

UPDATE\'D!
Yes, I\'m still working on the game. Yes, it\'s taking a while. Yes, I still need help.
I worked back through the main plot points almost to Mizuna\'s introduction, then downloaded all the ADV! walkthroughs. Now I\'m working forwards. I\'ve got everything up through Gildward joining done, and most of it tested (thanks, E-Mouse!).
I also threw together a site for info on the game. It\'s right here. Needed sprites/music/ect. are still in the first post.

This is definitely a good project. I think I have a good idea for sprites: Fire Emblem. Sure they don\'t have the best ... \"overworld\" sprites, but you most certainly can use others. Once I find some time, I will edit some of the sprites.
I would think that Fire Emblem\'s graphics would differ too much from the RM2Kz graphics that are currently being used...other than the fact that they\'d clash looks-wise, I think that the size differences would make them completely unusable.

RE: ADV! RPG
Idea for the in-game representation of the classic Comic 14 - 100 lbs of TNT always seemed like a bit much to me. This has resulted in several ideas of varying quality that I\'m tossing out here.
A: The TNT explodes and damages the player upon use. Not sure if this is possible. Ardam mentions that they really should\'ve seen that coming. This may or may not let them out of the dungeon.
B: Ardam doesn\'t even let Karn use the TNT.
Either way, it turns out that if a player wants to get out unscathed, Karn was right - the airplane is key to destroying the wall by way of its pointiness and die-castness.
To be sane: to be of quiet mind. Quiet, lacking sound. Unsound. To be of unsound mind: to be insane. So, are you sane?
Good ideas, but I\'ve already got that dungeon done (hint: Ardam was right).
EDIT: Gah! I was going by one of the walkthroughs - it placed that puzzle in a cave. I\'ll just fix that, then.

um... there was a fake walk-through of the game that suggested using fire on the airplane and throwing it towards the tnt. And it had interesting things on some of the other key comic events which might be worth reading if you can find them >_> I think they were written for a contest or something.
Yeah, I know. It\'s interresting, trying to tie all the different walkthroughs together.

RE: ADV! RPG
More than liley this will be discouraged as Necroposting. But not quite so...
I have something useful on my first post. Behold, Karn, in all his Pixelated glory. infinity form, as well as the funky transformation with the big-old wings and glowy eyes. Swords as well. i am currently working on the others. I do hope this is taken well. So many forums, so many views on Necroposting... Do hoo hoo... Also, May I point out that I am rather skilled with RM2k3, and that targeting is somewhat possible. It involves using Call event during battle to a common event where a show choice is displayed. It requires making a common event for EVERY monster party, but hey, what are you going to do about it, eh?
Couple things:
That post was fairly old, and the development team's gotten that worked out since then.
Also, we've already got out-of-battle sprites for Karn, in an entirely different style. Thanks, but we're trying to keep a consistant sprite style throughout.
Just a reminder: This is NOT dead. We could use someone to do in-battle monster sprites, especially of the bosses, and any help is always appreciated. Contact me or E-Mouse for details.
