I know it's been started several times before, but...
I'm using RPG Maker to put together an ADV! game. I've already got a good bit of plot coded up, and the world map passed webby's inspection so far. That's something I can do. However, I'm still using the default sprites. So here's the deal.
If anyone here can sprite, I would ask you to put together a sprite sheet for the major characters. Also, songs other than the default ones would be nice.

EDIT: We already have some sprites, and we'd like to keep the style consistant. If you're interested in spriting, please ask for a sample of what's currently being used. Karn

Also, if anyone has experience using RPG Maker 2003 and wants to help, just ask. We can get this (mostly) done before ADV! ends, but your help would speed it up greatly.
Mods: If you think this belongs in Gaming, go ahead and move it. I couldn't decide where to put it.

a) Those aren't the right size, and are missing most of the poses needed.
b) I've got all the stuff in fanstuff. However, it doesn't have a theme for Khrima, and the Spybot theme is broken.
c) I just looked around for it on the net. I don't recall where exactly I found it.

RE: ADV! RPG
My aesthetic/graphical skills are slim to nonexistant, but I'm an accomplished programmer with a fair amount of experience in event scripting. I'm currently on staff for another RM2K project, but things are going very slowly and I can find plenty of time to help you out with this too.

Great. I'm basically working backwards from the end of the game, and have the plot basically done back to the three generators, plus the Infinity Mail sequence. What would you want to do?
Would you be willing/able to do the multiple-party bit in the Khrimalith, and figuring out how to get them to switch members inside the final battle?

This is the most awesome idea ever....good god....
So, that brings me to wonder if it's gonna be a Tales of Symphonia-ish RPG (voice acting or no voice acting? If so, you could hold auditions on the site and such).

RE: ADV! RPG
Wow. That's pretty ambitious.
And yeah, doing multiple-party triggers and switching inside a battle isn't that hard. Although I'd recommend starting at the beginning and working forward; it makes it easier to define the storyline progress switches and similar things if you have them declared before you need to use them.
I thought about that. Then I realized that we know a lot more about the mid-to-late game than the beginning. Plenty of the early towns/caves and such weren't labeled, or weren't placed on a map. If I start at the end, I can see where stuff is for sure, then see if I can have the party double back to that town. As far as the storyline switches go, I've been able to just add them in as I need them (so far). I'm actually not going straight backwards. I'm jumping back a plot point, then filling it in forwards. Jump back, fill forwards. It's working pretty well, so far.
About the multiple parties: Yeah, I know I could set that up pretty easily. Right now though, I really don't feel like doing it. And I haven't really thought of how to switch the people mid-battle, although I could figure it out. Basically, I'm focusing on the map and plot together, then the smaller plot details, then the items and weapons, and finally the enemies.

RE: ADV! RPG
All right.
Like I said, I'm very good with scripting and technical stuff; if you'd like me to help out, PM me with a link where I can download what you've got so far, and a few specific things that you'd like me to implement, and I'll get started.
I'll provide help with some sprites (I'll just recycle with the old paletteswap trick for my own project). But do you know if RM2K3 uses the same charasets standards as RM2K (which is what I use)? And do you want anything other than walk gfx - battle poses, special attack positions, etc?
Were this RM2K I could provide coding assistance as well, but I have no experience in its prequel's use (I could give you a nice piece of code for a few battlechange systems for RM2K).
And consider fixing the roof to that house. Unless you either a) have a shortage of decent chipsets or b) are going for the deliberately-flawed look of an old RPG for parody purposes.
I'd like to see how this comes along. Though be warned I can be pretty ruthless when it comes to reviewing homemade RPGs.
Smeghead: Yeah, it's still pretty plain. I've got the first few towns there, and a random tower that'll probably blow up. I've also got three towns that were mentioned in one comic together. Other than that, I'm leaving my options open as to where towns and stuff can go.
masamunemaniac: Thank you. I don't know whether or not 2k3 uses the same sheets, but I would presume so. Battle poses would be good. Check here for info on the battle sheets. Buried somewhere in that site's links are some downloadable charsets to compare to 2k's sets. If you see an attack in the archives that you think would look really good, by all means make it. The same goes for enemies, if you feel like it. I can't do graphics nearly quickly enough, so any help at all would be appriciated. About the house: Yeah, it's not all it could be. Right now, however, I'm just trying to get everything recognizable. Maybe make a note of whatever you see to tell me later, though. And be as ruthless as you want. I'd like this to be almost as good as the comic itself.
EDIT: Yeah, it seems to take the same charsets. At least, some of the sets I've imported were labled for use with 2k.

Here's a random walk graphic - guess who it is? It's 11:42pm where I am atm so this is the limit for what'll be done on this tonight. The battle animations system seems completely different to RM2K's system (ie looks decent - I'm making a CBS for my project.) so they'll take a while before appearing in a workable format.
Here's Infinity Mode Karashi without her face mask on. (The gif plays up a bit on my machine... you might not be able to see it.)
Proper stuff some other day. For now there's bed, and later study and WoW.

RE: ADV! RPG
Do the RM2k's sprite sheets work? Because I'd be more than happy to lend a hand in that area. (I'm laid up over spring break, so I have loads of time to kill.)
Edit: Here's preliminary Argent. Bottom one has longer hair.
Double Edit: Here's a rough Khrima, too.

Okay, I leave for, like, three seconds, and everything changes. What gives?

RE: ADV! RPG
They work fine. Sprite sheets, face sets, chipsets, the works. They're all compatible with RM2K3. You can even import old RM2K projects, although some things will need to be reworked. (the Hero data will be screwed up IIRC, and the entire experience curves will be gone because the data structures are done differently.)
But mostly RM2K3 is just RM2K with some new features added in, and it does fairly well on the backwards-compatibility issue.
Ditto, though I can give moral support: You can do it!!
This sounds quite intriquing...I, too, will be keeping a close eye on this thread in the future.
Here's a super-updated Karashi. The left half without mask and the right half with. Top four rows being a walk graphic set, the 5th being projectiles and the final three being poses (battle animations) as seen in the comics! (and some that are not!)
Zoom in to see it a lot clearer.
We've got "IDRGNCROS" (#915)
The "IDOUBLDRGN" (#920) fingerpointing pose as well as the "Double Dragon" (the blurry box thing)
The fade out before attack (#927), though the fading-out effect would be done in RM2K itself, not here. The "ZZRT!" is also present.
The pre-attack (#928) is there, as is the post-attack both with and without the sword-blur-lines, as well as one with the swords in the completely wrong position.
The shuriken and throwing position (#939) is there.
The "four-nine shuriken" (#953) is there in two different angles, complete with throwing position.
Then we've got two unconscious poses, both with swords in ground (#944) and without (#947), though she's facing up rather than down. Unless she rolled over before pushing herself up from the floor when being revived...
And for filler, a petrified graphic. Because Khrima can cast "Stoner".
OK, update time.
Argent and Khrima are wroking fine. In fact, Argent could be the evil twin of the sprite I'm using for Ardam.
The I-Karashi sheet looks great, although I haven't had the chance to put it to the test yet.
Also: I'm taking ideas for the locations for 80+ elemental relics. Cough up the ideas, people. Odds are I'll be able to use all of them.

RE: ADV! RPG
Wherever it'd be logical, like in rocks (especially magical holy ones for nonsencial reasons!), left by monsters/golems associated with that, and when you run out of ideas, you can have a lot of the artificially-made ones avaliable in one of Khrima's labs or something.
Though really, it'd be better to address each individually, and maybe have combinations of elements that make commonly-known compounds (cough hydrocloric acid slime) for dual-purpose bosses.
Of course, they could just be lying around in random places along the 'main' plotline, with a few requiring short sidequests. Just make sure that there's a way to check wether you have everything in a 'dungeon' and anyplace with a Relic is either revisitable or mandatory to get when you go through it before the place is closed off.
