RE: Pokémon
I figure you all would be good to ask this. Just got a 3DS for christmas and looking at getting a pokemon game for it. Just not sure which one I should get. Black/White would be a good bet being the newest game, so probably the most active if I care to get into the online. I admit to not knowing any of the pokemon at all though. Partially why Soulsilver/HeartGold is tempting. Silver is probably my favorite in the series and it doesn't hurt I know all the pokemon. On the flip side, I played this adventure years ago on the game boy color (although I'm sure they added one or two new things). A dark horse in the race would be Diamond/Pearl/Platinum. Never played this game at all and not sure what was added to it, but I do actually know the pokemon in this one decently.

RE: Pokémon
I strongly suggest HG/SS or Platinum

I think graphic wise, menu wise, and story wise HG/SS has been the best game in the entire franchise
the story is pretty solid the menu is the easiest to navigate and makes the most sense
the graphics are just a small step down from B/W imo and all the side stuff in HG/SS (such as the pokethelon or the bug catching contest or the new safari zone or the battle frontier) is much more interesting than the stuff in B/W

Platinum is great too since I really love the Sinnoh storyline and Platinum really does it justice as well as gives all the towns a nice makeover and such so if you're looking for something newer go with Platinum
if you want something more familiar go with HG/SS
you wont be unhappy with either of those if you enjoy pokemon I'm positive

and honestly you can get B/W if you want
it's not a bad game
I just had a lot more fun with HG/SS than I did with B/W that's all

RE: Pokémon
Black and White tries to have an actual story, and it's a lot harder than the other games. Which is too bad, because the story sucks.

I thought the story was alright aside from N trying to get in my pants the whole time
also it actually seemed pretty easy to me aside from the E4 shit

RE: Pokémon
HG/SS is my favorite and the only pair I bought both games for.

For one reason:

Your lead party member FOLLOWS YOU AROUND WHEREVER YOU GO (though super big pokemon don't show up indoors).

This is the main selling point for me. Oh, and that it has the best post game (a second, fully fleshed out region, 8 new gyms, rematches for all the gyms, Rematch for the E4+1, AND, of course, the most famous battle in all the games, the battle with Red.)

RE: Pokémon
It was probably the first game where you couldn't breeze through to the elite four using a team of the 6 most awesome pokemon you found. You had to actually balance your team a little, and couldn't use the crappy but cool pokemon like Amoonguss.

they really need to bring this back in "Grey"
also they need to bring back the HG/SS menus
honestly I really really liked not having to hold the B button to run

That's your not-problem.

Another thing, most of the coolest pokemon don't become usable until they hit level 40 or 50. Like the Vanilla Icecream one, who won't get base stats above 400 until level 47.

Oh yeah! The HG/SS menus were astounding. Then they had the C-gear crap thing which I've never used in B/W.

Even in Pearl/Diamond the ice cream dude was a bit of a pain until his 3rd form. Though luckily those games are really easy so it didn't give me too much trouble. And the vanilla ice cream Pokemon is adorable either way.

if so it was introduced in gen 3 bubbleman (although they were pretty rare until gen 4's pokeradar)

RE: Pokémon
Er, I meant black and white apparently. The Pokemon games blend together for me sometimes. That's weird, Black/White was pretty easy for me. Though I did have to grind a tiny bit for the Elite Four.

B/W was easy cause no one in the entire pre E-4 game had more than 3 pokemon.

NO ONE.

Seriously, it wasn't til the E-4 (or was it the champion) that you meet ANYONE with more than 3.

IKR?
the only time I remember battling a bunch of pokemon was in a triple battle
or was it a rotation battle?
I don't remember

honestly I liked most of the new pokemon and team plasma looks neat but other than that B/W kind of fell flat for me

Pfft, nothing compared to out of nowhere GARY MOTHERFUCKING OAK.

Aside from that nigh-indestructible Snorlax, Red was kind of a pushover.

RE: Pokémon
I still can't beat him in SS p_q Even after beating the E4 +1 rematch.

He was easy as hell in G/S, though.

It still has more note than any other battle as it's the only battle where you battle a former PC.
