Pokémon

-Spiritomb is 108? Hey, more religion. Yay!
-The "pokemon is for adults" argument when pokemon came out as a game for kids. It's just a kids game that has layers within it that appeal to adults as well, like the Pixar movies.
-While DuskGold is a nice name, DawnSilver is idiotic and isn't that the name of a main character? Seems as silly as naming a pair of games BurntUmber and AshSienna.
-I'll end up with silver, as I can't fucking stand Gold after the Pokemon Special manga... and SoulSilver really is a good name.

Pokemon is for children and for adults who wish they were still children.

I was pretty sure that most people bought Silver Back in the day, since I was like, everyone's best friend, probably because I had Gold.
And currently, there is a slight majority in Silver. But they are pretty down the middle.

Pokemon are not badass. They never have been. They never were. This is a children's game. Things like "EV Points" and breeding and all those things were added NOT for adults, but for older kids, the tweens, to give them a deeper game while maintaining the property's integrity.
It's a kiddy game. With a deeper, more complex game imbedded in it because Japanese kids are smarter (IE, more obsessive) than us. You're just going to have to live with it.

I am pretty sure that I am an adult, and I am pretty sure my Nine year old brother has no idea why Gold and Silver games are a big deal.
If you look at who they were marketing to back then, and who they are marketing today, well, what you're saying is as silly as saying Nintendo will never be for adults.

All of the games have the same name as Main Characters... I suppose DawnSilver would have two names, but the majority of people don't read the Manga in the US, so they only know Dawn, while in Japan Dawns name was ヒカリ (Hikari) and many of them keep up with the Manga and know Silver.
Plus, her name is only Dawn in the US, and if they change the game name, they will probably keep Japs name only in Jap, and use DawnDusk everywhere else.
I don't think they will be going with that anyway, though.

am I going to need more than 3 pokemon? Because that's how many EV Trained pokemon I have

actually i was thinking it'd be double battles
and you'd be allowed exactly three pokemon

there are some other restrictions i have in mind (such as some banned pokemon and held items) but i'll wait to see if there's enough interest in having a tournament at all before actually nailing down the details

I SO do not have pokemon trained for a double battle tournament. I'd really rather do single.

Most places don't have the sort of wi-fi DS's use... I've tried before.

Still, I may double check and try again for the tourney, but first I'd want to get some trades in so I could properly build my team...

Edit: Oh, is the tourney no legends or no ubers? Because if it's "no legends" then I'll kill everyone with Wobuffet and Scizor (nigh counterless without Zapdos to handle him), and if it's no ubers... Then I've got to play fair. >_<

Just remember that even Magikarp can beat ubers (under the right conditions).

The only ubers not banned by "no legends" are Garchomp and Wobuffet. Both of whom I'll be using if the rule is "no legends" of course. If ubers are banned, then I won't have access to my haxxy Garchomp and Wobba, and people will be capable of handling Scizor with Zapdos, so everything will be fair...er.

Edit: Also, if we were using Ubers, I definitely wouldn't lead with Kyogre... He's a popular lead, but there are way better anti-leads in the ubers meta, and I'd much rather use them.

I'd be game for a mini-tourney doohickey thing, in whatever format. I have enough Pokes of various types to support doubles or singles. Not ubers, though. (Or at least not legendaries...I have both Garchomp and Wob.)

The more metagaming I see Kenn do, the less I'm giving a shit.

i don't speak that smogon bullshit kenn so i dunno what an uber is. legendaries, psuedo legendaries, wobbofet/wynaut, and bidoof/bibarel are all banned. oh and i'd like switching to be banned or at least limited too.

If you have a Taunting, Dragon Dancing Gyarados out and I have a Skarmory, I shouldn't be allowed to switch. Not at all. You should be allowed to set up a full six dragon dances and then kill my entire goddamn team. Fuck, man. Just because you're used to playing stupid computer opponents doesn't mean you should force everyone to play like the stupid computers. Limited switching is just as bad and just as stupid.

Banning legends and wobuffet and "pseudo legends" (I assume this means Salamence, Garchomp, Metagross, Tyranitar and [lol] Dragonite, right?) is... No, really, even that's downright dumb. I linked to the list of uber pokémon. That's not bullshit. That is the list of pokémon that overpower other pokémon. Notice the absence of, you know, Articuno (sucks) Heatran (awesome, but still killable by a wide range of things), Moltres (dies to rock attacks. Stealth rock says hi!) and Dragonite (did you know he's actually worse than Gyarados? For anything Dragonite can do you can name another pokémon that does it and does it better). Really. I linked a perfectly fine banlist, don't write it off as bullshit. If you want to ban legends/events because they're hard to get ahold of then I understand (and will still kill everyone with bullet punch scizor because they won't have Zapdos and likely won't have Rotom appliance forms. Just figured I'd give fair warning).
