Pokémon

The one on the left has a maple leaf or maybe a flipper on its tail so it's probably grass or water. I think the bunny's fire because the one on the right looks like some sort of aquatic creature to me.

Middle one: FIREPIG

left could be grass/water
top could be electric/fire (the tail looks electric to me)
bottom could be ground/flying?

I dunno
I...think those types all match up
but I could be overlooking something

well it doesn't have to start out with both types

see first gen for examples

but fire turns into fire/flying upon it's second evolution

Fire turns into Fire/Flying. Fire does not, however, turn into Ground/Flying. Nor do Water or Grass.

but in order to balance the starters with each other if they all have these weird duel types that's what would be required

It's more like the fact that starters have always been grass, water, fire. No change. EVER.

Yeah, I don't think duel types would make much sense at this point. It wouldn't be a very good business move, for sure.

Grass/Poison and Fire/Fighting disagree with you.

I also want to say Piplup becomes Water/Steel, but maybe that was something else.

I'm going to say a fire on the left, grass in the middle, and water to the right. And that the fire evolves into fire/flying.

yeah piplup eventually evolves into empoleon which is water/steel

Gen 1: Charizard = Fire/Flying; Bulbasaur, Ivysaur, Venusaur = Grass/Poison
Gen 2: no dual type starters
Gen 3: Cumbusken, Blaziken = Fire/Fighting; Marshtomp, Swampert = Water/Ground

It's doubtful that they're going to stop being fire, grass, and water, but the overall pattern seems to indicate that they're going in more for dual-type evolutions.

Really, my hopes involve a water/fighting type, a fire/psychic type, and a grass/dark type for their final evos, but I know I'm not going to see that...

Those are all ugly, but first forms of starters tend to be. However, I love both of the player character designs. First time I've ever been able to say that about pokemon.

The fire type and water type remind me of Grumpig and Mime Jr a bit.

The water type actually reminds me of...I forget the name of it. Whooper? Water / Ground pokemon from Gen 2.
