RE: Gildward The Swift!
Let's give him (Flash). But actually, he's fine. He's not really great, but not every card has to be amazing. His ability is unique, which I think is enough for him.

Check out my music.

RE: Gildward The Swift!
Flash seems like it'd be the opposite of what he should be flavour-wise: Instantly coming out of hiding to be a surprise blocker? Doesn't quite fit Icon_razz

There's a difference between not being amazing and being worthless.

RE: Gildward The Swift!
I like giving him Focus (having him be a repeatable 5 damage-if-your-opponent-isn't-prepared annoyance amuses me deeply), but I'm not sure about making the only way to counter him the (Opponent creatures take >5 damage) mechanic. A speed drop to B would at least let you hit him with Foom or Firebolt regardless of whether a clickwar during Attack Resolution occurs.

RE: Gildward The Swift!
It's not the kind of ability that should be S speed anyway; there's even a clickwar with Chookie (who's meant to be the one S speed exception) should they both be undizzied at the same time (via Selection Committee, for instance)

RE: Gildward The Swift!
I don't know. Gilward, and 0-mana creatures in general, is already somewhat of a problem through his abilities. Right now, it will be hard to implement a card that say "whenever you play a creature" without it being broken just by gildward. For another, I really don't like the idea of "balancing" just because. Still, this is mostly a "You say Why Not? I say Why?".

Ultros Wrote:Occasionally breaking the game with new cards doesn't really count as a niche use; those combos have all been removed, and doubtlessly any unanticipated future ones will be, too.

Rather then quote everyone else on this point: he's useless. Maybe not useless entirely, but useless to the same degree as Z-Strike in a deck with only 1 Karn and Hero (very very rarely will ever make a difference).

It's balancing for the sake of balance because Gildward is typically flavorfully underpowered. In this case however, his absolute lack of any use aside from breaking the game which isn't technically a use (and ends up getting fixed anyway) does actually warrant a change.

I like the change for this reason:

making gildward unable to be dizzied would be a nice counter to him
Focus plus reducing the ability to Speed_2 is fine with me. It'd match the Speed_2 on War Gildward.

I like it, though I'd like Chookie to get something too (1 sac sounds fine).

Checking my list 8 times.

RE: Gildward The Swift!
Seriously guys, I don't think we need to be concerned about Speed_0 on a 5/5 creature.  If anything it's a convience, because you'll probably want to bounce him every turn so that he doesn't get directly attacked anyway. I guess (Focus) would be fun on him.

Check out my music.

RE: Gildward The Swift!
Okay, focus is fine I guess as I just realized Gremlin's ability is below average... I might just make a thread because of this.

RE: Gildward The Swift!
Technically Gildward's ability fails to meet all the criteria for Speed_0:

1- The ability must not affect your opponent in any way
2- The ability isn't a spell. Spells don't need to be S-Speed
3- The ability does not dizzy
4- The ability wouldn't otherwise be slower than A
5- the ability must be the sort you would use over and over, S is to save time.
6- If the card has any reason that using it on your opponent's turn would lead to it being countered, then it probably shouldn't be S.
7- If in doubt, no S.

It's really minor but so was Mana Explosion.

RE: Gildward The Swift!
I actually kind of like this idea, although I don't know if Web would... I can almost hear his reaction: this is the balance forum, not the fantasy card forum.

If he's for it, though, then that'll be pretty cool.

Count me as in for focus and Speed_2.

Give him focus, leave him at Speed_0

Make Chookie 8/12

RE: Gildward The Swift!
(focus) sounds fine. I really, really don't get why he should be changed from S speed. It seems pointless.

RE: Gildward The Swift!
Here's a question: if I use a spell like Potent Injection and Gildward bounces before it resolves, have I wasted the spell or does it stay in hand? Likewise if the opponent targets it with something like Firebolt?

The spell fails and you waste it.

RE: Gildward The Swift!
Alright, other than Chookie is there any other abuse/click war that can be thought of with Gildward at Speed_0?

EDIT: And Slime Valley as that has its own click wars with many other cards.
