RE: Pokémon
actually it did

there was a kid who was being afflicted with bad dreams sent by darkrai
you go and get the lunar wing to cure him

later, if you have platinum and got the...member card?, you go back to the dad and he takes you to darkrais island

RE: Pokémon
That's a lot more in game story line than the Legendary Birds had when they came out.

Also, the numbers have been increasing since the beginning. It's just what is happening... Needed? Well, of course not, but really, each generation that follows isn't really needed in it's entirety, so to say one thing is needed over another is kind of silly... Especially since if we DIDNT have those legendaries we would have just had common pokemon or no pokemon to replace them. Those two options aren't any more interesting than HAVING them be Legendaries.

The NEAT thing about having more Legendaries is that you can give Legends story lines, and they seem to want more story.

But yes, it's a trend that they seem to be going with (having more legendaries) so I wouldn't be surprised if they continue to go with it.

To be honest though, I think the number of Legendary will probably closer to GEN III this time around.

RE: Pokémon
they kind of have to keep the number of legends relatively the same to R/S & D/P otherwise they'll be accused of just milking the series and not adding any new "meaningful" content and such

I don't see how adding 'more' Legendaries than previous Gens is ''not adding any new meaningful content''.

Also, we are still at about 90% percent of Pokemon being non legendary for each Gen, and Gens in total.

That is a huge non Legendary to Legendary margin. I would really like to see more done with Legendaries. And I don't mind having more.

I'm saying if they DON'T add more or around the same number of legendaries that's what they may be accused of

RE: Pokémon
You can add stories and legends without having legendary pokémon. I mean, there's the whole Clefairies coming from the moon, and they came down at Mount Moon thing. Or the Gyarados at the Lake of Rage thing. Plenty of ways to use normal pokémon in these things without making them one-off legendaries.

RE: Pokémon
All Pokemon have a sort of History. Clefairy moon deal is just Pokedex data and small mentioning in the game (if that).

Lake of Rage I'll give you but that's not really a Legend, just a plot line. A weak one at that. It doesn't delve into Pokemon history or anything bigger than a situation. I mean, sure they can come up with story if they decide to pull little bits from where ever, what I am referring to is to the Pokemon World as a whole, not situational story. They have only used Legendaries in the History of the Pokemon World, and rightfully so.

Also. The white and black guys, part dragon type.

They are for sure running out of ideas.

White one bears a strong resemblance to Suicune.

Black one bears a strong resemblance to Sceptile.(or was it Grovyle?)

I bet that Black will sell at least 50% better than White. Simply because the legendary in it looks more badass.

RE: Pokémon
This is because the Black version would otherwise sell loads more because black things look cooler than white things (except for people because everyone is a racist).

Now you need to decide between an awesome black pokémon or an awesome black game cartridge.

Except not, because the legendaries aren't awesome anyway and they should just put starters on the cartridges. And by that I mean Cyndaquil and Chikorita.

RE: Pokémon
Or just wait until they make their third game, Gray, in about a year after these two which will have both of those legendaries in it anyway.

I keep thinking your name is Listerine.

Also, there is a good Chance the Third Version is going to be 3DS Exclusive.

RE: Pokémon
I'm going to jump on the "most modern legendaries suck" bandwagon and even agree with Andriex that most of the original legendaries were ugly as sin, too, although I still think Zapdos (despite being ugly) looks really cool and that Articuno has a smooth, simple, and recognizeable design. After that, basically all of the other legends have been either overdesigned, ugly, or both, with the exception of Shaymin and Celebi, I guess. Heatran I admit is ugly as sin, but I love that fucker. A lot of the legends I think should be ugly. Heatran is a monstrosity of magma and steel created by intense geothermal pressure. You just can't have that and make it look handsome. It's got to look like nature punched it in the face. I also admit they could've designed him better, but like him regardless.

When it comes to design, to me it seems like there are two main objectives: keep it simple, and keep it recognizable. While it's easy to sacrifice one for the other*, good design should accomplish both. There are a lot of pokemon that have done this, like Pikachu, Weedle, and a number of pokemon in the, second, and even third and fourth generations (Qwilfish, Manectric, Luxray, Torterra, all are relatively simple but easily recognizable designs), they just keep missing it over and over with most of the legends.

*look at TWEWY and Kingdom Hearts for a terrifying example of sacrificing simple design for recognizable design, and you can probably count TF2 as being the opposite, where recognizability is in some cases sacrificed to avoid overdesign, like the heavy and spy, who are kind of generic
